What do premium versions in mobile apps have over their free counterparts? Are those premium features really useful on small devices or do you need a tablet at least?. Support sounds like an offer for enterprise rather than household. 
Nice perk to consider over the standalone version. If OP was a heavy user that needed those, they wouldn't ask which version to choose :)
Publisher and Access seem like programs for professionals. OP didn't say anything about sharing with family, I assumed this is for one person only. Or - as you say - you have an aversion to the subscription model in principle (welcome to 2021!) that could be another motivator.īut for virtually every other person in every other scenario, the 365 subscription model offers both more features and better value for money. then the perpetual model absolutely makes the most sense for that group of people. So, sure, if your use case is that you are a single person who only wants the most basic versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook on one single device (either Windows or a MacBook), and you don't care about updates. Excel, for example, has some fairly powerful formulas/functions/features not included in the perpetual model, such LAMBDA() and Custom Data Types. You say the differences are 'not so impressive', but that's pretty subjective. 
The subscription also has coverage for the apps in the iOS and Android ecosystem, which is not included under the perpetual model. The subscription includes product support, which is not part of the perpetual model. That subscription cost also includes 1TB of OneDrive file storage, which you don't get with the perpetual licence. The subscription automatically includes Publisher and Access (which is only available in the perpetual model if you upgrade to the most expensive 'Professional' tier). If you get the 365 subscription that can be shared with up to 5 other people, then it becomes significantly cheaper to go with the subscription model (even if you only end up sharing with 1 other person). Not the person you were conversing with, but there are several advantages, depending on your use-case:
